Introduzione
In inglese le domande si formano invertendo soggetto e verbo ausiliare, oppure usando l'ausiliare do/does/did nei tempi semplici. Ci sono quattro tipi principali di domande: domande sì/no, domande con wh-, question tag e domande indirette.
| Tipo | Struttura | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| Domanda sì/no | Ausiliare + soggetto + verbo principale | Are you coming? |
| Domanda Wh- | Parola Wh- + ausiliare + soggetto + verbo | Where do you live? |
| Question tag | Affermazione + breve question tag | She is nice, isn't she? |
| Domanda indiretta | Proposizione principale + parola interrogativa + soggetto + verbo | I wonder where he lives. |
Domande sì/no e domande con wh-
Nella maggior parte delle domande, soggetto e ausiliare si invertono. Se nella frase affermativa non c'è un ausiliare, aggiungi do/does (presente) o did (passato). Be è diverso: quando è il verbo principale, si inverte da solo, senza do (They were late Were they late?).
AffermativaShe works here. Domanda: Does she work here?
AffermativaThey were late. Domanda: Were they late?
- Have you finished?
- Did she call?
- What did you do?
- Where is he going?
- Where you are going?Where are you going?inversion needed
- She did called?Did she call?use base form after did
Question tag
Le question tag sono brevi domande alla fine di un'affermazione per chiedere conferma. Una frase affermativa vuole una tag negativa; una frase negativa vuole una tag positiva.
Frase affermativa+question tag negativa She is nice, isn't she?
Frase negativa+question tag positiva He didn't come, did he?
- It's cold today, isn't it?
- You don't like fish, do you?
- They've finished, haven't they?
- She can't drive, can she?
Domande indirette
Le domande indirette (o incassate) seguono il normale ordine delle parole della frase affermativa: niente inversione e niente ausiliare do. Seguono espressioni come: I wonder, Do you know, Could you tell me.
DirettaWhere does she live? Indiretta: I wonder where she lives.
- Direct: What time is it? Indirect: Could you tell me what time it is?
- Direct: Did he leave? Indirect: I don't know whether he left.
- I wonder where does she live.I wonder where she lives.no inversion
- Do you know what time is it?Do you know what time it is?
