Úvod
Přítomný průběhový čas se používá pro děje, které probíhají právě teď (right now) nebo v současném období. Tvoří se pomocí am/is/are + tvar slovesa na -ing.
Podmět+am/is/are+sloveso-ing
- I am reading a great book right now.
- Julia is working from home this week.
- They are building a new bridge nearby.

Použití přítomného průběhového času
Nepoužívá se jen pro právě probíhající okamžik:
| Použití | Příklad |

| Děj probíhající právě teď | Shh! The baby is sleeping. |
| Dočasná situace | I am staying with my parents this month. |

Přítomný prostý vs. přítomný průběhový čas
Oba přítomné časy se snadno pletou. Přítomný prostý čas popisuje trvalá fakta a zvyky; přítomný průběhový čas popisuje dočasné nebo probíhající děje.

Stavová slovesa (bez průběhového tvaru)
Některá stavová slovesa (stative verbs) popisují stavy, nikoli děje, a v průběhových časech se běžně nepoužívají. Patří k nim slovesa myšlení, citů, vlastnictví a vnímání.
